Learning for Life Series Family Activity Books

by Rick Osborne and others

Moody Press

This series is based on the idea that teaching children about God and the Bible does not happen only during scheduled lessons but should be a part of our activities all day long. In order to prepare parents to do this, these 110-page large format paperbacks give background information, Bible verses, trivia questions, and ideas for working mini-lessons into everyday life. Scripture is taken from the New International Readers’ Version, but you could easily substitute another translation if you prefer. Cheerful, multi-cultural drawings by Ken Save add interest and humor.

Your Child and The Bible gives an overview of the Bible: the way it is put together, the types of literature represented, and the history of its development into the form we know today. Also given are two summaries of the entire Bible story; one, a short version for younger children and the other a little longer. If you feel a little shaky in your knowledge of the Bible or have trouble simplifying your knowledge enough to teach children, this book should help give you the confidence you need. It also presents factors to consider when choosing a Bible for your child and three age-appropriate reading plans to guide your children through the most significant and interesting parts of the Bible story (and keep them from getting bogged down and discouraged halfway through Leviticus.)

Your Child and the Christian Life covers a variety of basic subjects such as salvation, prayer, obedience, stewardship (including budget ideas), relationships, and witnessing. Since a big part of teaching is living and modeling the Christian life, be prepared for a commitment rather than a lesson plan. [V. Thorpe]
