Introductory Logic (audio tape series)by R.C. SproulL igonier MinistriesR.C. Sproul teaches an introductory logic class covering thinking fallacies and “truth tests” for evaluating statements and ideas. Sproul begins with common thinking fallacies such as post hoc ergo propter hoc (after this, therefore because of this), then addresses some of the basics of logic like the law of noncontradiction and syllogisms. Toward the end, he teaches how to use Venn diagrams and symbols to express relationships and logic. Sproul’s purpose is theological—to equip Christians to both defend and explain their faith as a reasonable belief in contrast to other belief systems that are logically flawed. The course consists of six, 60-minute audiotapes with brief outline notes. Although the presentations were made before an older audience, mature teens should find it understandable. The use of Venn diagrams in particular transform abstract ideas into visual illustrations. This course should be a little easier than Douglas Wilson’s logic course, although not as extensive. The outline notes will help students keep track of what they are learning.
