Early Learning Kit地 a Bag

Joyce Herzog has joined with Karen Stoll to produce this “grab bag” of ideas and learning resources that can be used with children from about ages three through five. Rather than a sequential curriculum, this is a kit for creating fun learning activities.

It comes with a teacher manual, bags of trinkets and items to be used as learning resources, and a “gable” box for storing the materials in their plastic bags. This isn’t fancy, but that helps to keep the price low.

The manual comes with pages of flash cards to be cut apart and a laminated “Match Mates” activity “board.” The manual first provides general information and learning principles. Then it presents activities in sections: large muscle activities, mental exercises, dramatic play, activities that develop visual skills, playing active games, art activities, science activities and alphabet activities. Children learn colors, shapes, numbers, counting, relationships, directions, and matching, as well as physical movement, communication and many other concepts. A record keeping page is included if you want to keep track of skills and concepts you have introduced.

Among items in the box are tongue depressor sticks, small Frisbees, a bendable plastic person, stick puppets, feathers, pom poms, magnetic foam letters, three-inch rings, a jingle bell, a miniature straw hat, foam shapes, a mask, cubes, and small balls. Some of these items might pose choking hazards so be cautious.

The authors hope this kit will help your child become excited about learning, and that both parent and child will find delight in learning together.
