Praktisches Deutsch: Grundstufe I, Grundstufe II, and Mittelstufe I [German]

BJUP offers the only German language program I know of that is written from a Christian perspective. This is a three-year program that uses the total immersion approach. Student worktexts are entirely in German. Vocabulary is learned through association, description, and illustrations. Students also complete written exercises for reinforcement.

The subject matter sounds interesting: German history, art, literature, travel, amusement, politics, and religion. The textbook authors assume a teacher’s knowledge of German, so it will be difficult to use if the parent/teacher lacks that knowledge.

Audiocassette sets are available for the first two textbooks, which will help with pronunciation. Instruction, practice, and exercises are all contained in each worktext. No teacher’s edition is available.

Praktisches Deutsch: MittelstuffI, the third year book, has review tables and advanced grammar instruction in a worktext format. You will need to purchase a German-English dictionary from another source for reference.
