Storybook Weaver® Deluxe 2004Riverdeep, IncGet those reluctant writers motivated with this computer program for either Windows or Macintosh systems. Children assemble a background scene by matching a top with a bottom, and then add drawings or choose from a wide variety of “stamps” of people in various positions, objects, cars, animals etc. These stamps can also be painted on, modified or resized. Then students can make the sleeping boy snore or water drip by choosing from a variety of sound effects that can be applied to the objects. Background music sets the mood. When their picture is complete, they can write about it on the bottom of the same page. The computer will read back what they type in either English or Spanish. A spell check and thesaurus help the writing process. For those who don’t know where to start, there are a variety of story starters in English or Spanish to complete. Also, think about letting two or more children try a co-operative story. This is great fun for children in grades 1 through 6. At this time, this newest edition is only available in a “school edition” that includes 2 program CDs. (reviewed by Valerie Thorpe and Cathy Duffy) |
