The Classical Education Timeline

Pandia Press

The Classical Education Timeline is available in two versions: Prehistory to Modern Package or Ancient History to Modern Package. The Prehistory Package begins at 2 million B.C. and has five sectioons, while the Ancient History Package begins at 6000 B.C. and has four sections. Each section is 11" high by 60" in length. These are printed on glossy paper in full color, so the bare timeline is more attractive than most other timelines. There are about 3 inches of space on the timeline for every 100-year period except for the prehistory section. This is fine for the most part until you start into the age of exploration and continue into modern history. At that point, it becomes difficult to fit all the events on the timeline, especially if you want to include illustrations, stickers, or expanded information.

The pubisher suggests a few different options such as putting section of the timeline in a binder and inserting pages with expanded information adjacent to the appropriate time line pages or putting a reference number on the timeline that refers to a binder with the expanded information. I think an alternate method such as one of these suggestions might be necessary for modern history.

Both packages include a set of 200 black-and-white stickers, mostly drawings or photos of people but some of events or places such as the Parthenon.

Either timeline will work well with Pandia Press's own History Odyssey curriculum as well as with any other history course.

The timeline sections come accordion-folded, so they are easy to ship and store when not in use. Once you've begun to add stickers and other accretions to the timeline it will not fold easily unless you pay careful attention to avoiding the crease lines.

You might mount the five-foot sections of the timeline one under another if you have a five-foot section of wall space available (see illustration). If you've got a 20 to 25-foot section available you might mount them in a continuous line. You might also consider mounting only the timeline section(s) on which you are working that year.
