The Relaxed Home School

In The Relaxed Home School, author Mary Hood Ph.D., (who is also the author of Countdown to Consistency) describes her own philosophy of education. She first covers some of the background territory then she goes on to “demonstrate” her philosophy in action in her own family by telling us how they tackle each subject.

Mary's approach is, as the title indicates, relaxed. She is a Christian home educator who does not rely on a Christian-textbook approach to learning. She stresses the need for goals, coupled with an openness to many ways of attaining them. Her children have significant input into goal and strategy decisions, reflecting their own personal goals, talents, and interests.

Since my own philosophy of education is very similar to Mary's, I highly recommend her book so that you get the “real life” side of applying the curriculum decisions you might make based on my own books or reviews. You might also want to read Mary Hood's encouraging book, The Joyful Home Schooler.
