This basic book for instruction in phonics and/or spelling can be used for kindergarten and up, either alone or with another program that is weak in the phonics presentation. (It is included with the Alphabet Island Phonics 2 program.) The Handbook contains thorough explanation of the phonics rules and how to present them along with complete word lists. The “heart” of Alphabet Island’s teaching methodology is here but with less of the activity work. However, it does include phonetic rules in poetic form (as in Alphabet Island) plus many game and activity ideas. Lesson plans are included to keep us from getting overwhelmed by the amount of material offered in this book.
