Quizzes for 220 Great Children’s Books

Home educated children often read more books than parents can begin to keep track of. If you would like to maintain some sort of academic accountability for your child's reading, this book might be helpful. It has descriptions of each of the 220 books (divided into age group categories for grades 3-8); lists of books by categories such as courage, crime, or death/dying; instructions on how to set up this reading/accountability system (including contracts, points, and record keeping); and a reproducible page of multiple choice and true/false questions for each book. An answer key in the back has the answers to these questions, but it also assigns a point value to each book that is arrived at by category level and the number of pages.

Books are those usually easily found at the library and include those by authors such as Judy Blume, Beverly Cleary, Robert Lawson, E. B. White, Lois Lenski, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Betsy Byars, Louisa May Alcott, C.S. Lewis, Scott O'Dell, Charles Dickens, and Elizabeth George Speare. With only multiple choice and true/false questions, you will only be checking on recall of details and basic comprehension rather than more comprehensive reading skills.

Still, this is one way to make sure that your children are actually reading all those books they claim to read.
