Night Owl Creations, Inc.

Night Owl produces a number of topical unit studies that can be used for grades K-8, but which are keyed to course objectives for grade levels K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. Instruction or information for each of the three learning levels is included wherever appropriate.

Titles available are Weather, Inventions, Thanksgiving and Christmas, The Arts, A Tour of Europe, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Explorers, Wilderness Survival, Energy, First Aid and Safety, Australia, Colonial America, Beautiful and Historical Florida, and Marine Life.

A unique feature of the Night Owl unit studies is companion KT Folders. KT Folders are preprinted pages to be cut, pasted, folded and otherwise “beautified” by each child to create a report/presentation booklet. You will need to supply scissors, glue, markers, string, paint, and other craft supplies. You will need to purchase a KT Folder for each student participating in the study. (One KT Folder comes with each package. Extra KT Folders cost $8.50 each except those for the Florida study are $10.)

The studies include activities addressing science, history, geography, Bible, music, arts and crafts, creative writing, and composition, although all subjects do not receive equal coverage in every study. Biblical applications are the only consistent items that appear in every lesson. These will supplement most subject areas, while providing complete coverage for some sections of your curriculum such as your study of Ancient Greece and Rome.

Most of the studies require one or two resource books. For example, the Wilderness study uses The Boy Scout Handbook, the Wilderness Survival Badge series and Survival Cards; Weather requires the Usborne book Weather and Climate. These additional resources can be purchased as part of a complete package for each study that includes the basic curriculum, a KT Folder, and the resources. Everything can also be purchased separately. Other books are referenced throughout the various studies, but you can choose to use them or not. Most of these can be found at your local library.

All studies are designed to be easy for teachers. Complete lesson plans direct you through each step. Materials required are listed, and directions are provided when necessary. You will need to reproduce some of the pages in the curriculum book in advance. Much background information is provided within the curricula so you need not search out information before you can begin.
