Can Man Live Without God?

by Ravi Zacharias

Thomas Nelson Publishing

Ravi Zacharias, through his speaking ministry, carries the gospel into major secular universities around the world, a place where the message of Christianity is seldom welcome. Using stories, quotations, anecdotes, and logic he challenges his listeners to examine their worldview and compare it to the biblical worldview. This book seems to draw heavily from those presentations, identifying the key issues and supplying the answers. It is divided into three main sections. The first, “Antitheism is Alive—and Deadly,” deals with issues such as God’s existence, ethics, evil, and death. The second section, “What Gives Life Meaning?”, investigates man’s relationship to God, and the nature of truth, knowledge, and love. The third section, “Who Is Jesus (and Why Does It Matter?),” compares Jesus’ truth claims with those of other religions. Two appendices also make for interesting reading. The first consists of questions and answers recorded at lectures given at Harvard University. The second offers brief biographies of “mentors to the skeptic,” key philosophers (Descartes, Hume, Kant, Kierkegaard, Nietzshe, Russell, and Sartre) who have contributed to modern day skepticism. Yes, the content is deep, but Zacharias’ presentation is so compelling and logical that older teens should be able to handle it. This is one of the very best books for addressing worldview questions posed by analytical, logical thinkers (Competent Carls).

The book is available in trade paper format or a hardcover edition that includes an audio CD of the presentation that sparked the book.
